Blogger or WordPress?

I get many questions like, “what should I choose? Blogger or Wordpress”, “which one is better? Blogger or wordpress”, “what are the advantages of blogger over wordpress and vice-versa?”

So here I decided to deal with this issue.  Blogger and Wordpress are two main contenders of free blog hosting. Features which are clearly better at either BlogSpot or Wordpress have been highlighted.

Here is the comparison scale:-
1.   Ease of set-up and use
It is comparatively easy to sat up an blogger than to set up an wordpress. You can be done in 10 minutes flat on blogger. Once you are set up you can start posting immediately. This is one of the main reasons I choose blogger over wordpress. If you want to add a designer’s touch to your blog, there are tons of templates available for free.

Whereas setting up a wordpress can be a major headache, if you don’t know what you are doing.

2.   Customization and advance use
Blogger doesn’t allow categories. You can’t sort your articles into different focuses. With WordPress, not only can you add categories, you can also display each category differently on your main page. In fact with the correct plugins you can even turn your WordPress into a magazine-like portal.

Publishing with Blogger can be a pain in the ass. It can take forever to post articles, especially if you’re making changes to the entire website. With WordPress, publishing is much faster, although if you load your system with all kinds of bells and whistles it can be just as frustrating.

3.   Copyright and Ownership of Content
Blogger is good but not too good. This is because: Google Owns Your Content.

Google has right to shut down your account, if he doesn’t like what you are posting. You don’t have absolute control over your own blog. With a WordPress you own a domain name and the blog are hosted on your own account. WordPress gives you full control over your own account.

4.   Search engine optimization and Traffic
There is thinking among people that, since Google owns blogger, it tends to favor it. I don’t think so. As long as your content is good, spider will come, no matters weather it is blogger or WordPress.

As a conclusion, I would say that WordPress is only slightly ahead in terms of optimization for search engines, and building large amounts of traffic.

5.   Money – Making potential
There is no doubt that it is easier to get Google Adsense approval, if you are a blogger. In fact you can apply for Adsense from the blogger account itself.

With wordPress it gets tricky. The default installation is not very easy. You’ll need a couple of plugins and even a better theme to really maximize the Adsense potential.

6.   Customer service
If assistance is required both blogging services provide help sections. WordPress comes out ahead in this department as the list of topics seems to be never ending. The more popular topics are shown at the top of the page and each topic is separated into easy to view sections. Bloggers help section has a few topic categories with four or less topics listed under each. Clearly the help section for Blogger needs to be fleshed out a bit more.

Both the blogging services are good in one and the other way, it merely depends on you whether to choose a wordpress or blogger. If you want to make your blog look more eye-catching, go for blogger. And if you are thinking about ownership wright, go for wordpress.

Do you have any more points in favor or against of any two? We would like to hear that..
